Save Money on Groceries: Check Your Cupboards Part 2

Published by jenfoote at 10:49 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

In my last post, I stated how checking your food cupboards can help you save money on groceries. It allows you to keep tabs on expiration dates and reduce food waste. With that said, there is another benefit to examining the food that you already have. That benefit is saved money at the grocery store.

Personally, I use to have a huge problem with duplicates in my cupboards. At one point, we actually had four jars of mayonnaise. Why? Because I thought that we were almost all out, but we weren’t. Yes, it will and is being used, but I could have used the money for something else at the time.

For that reason, scan your cupboards before you go grocery shopping. Make a quick mental note of the items that you already have. This will prevent you from buying food that you don’t need.

I am constantly buying stuff I already have plenty off, just like you said you did with mayonnaise. I try to remember to look in the cabinets and refrigerator before I go grocery shopping, but I always seem to forget.

That is a big one for me. I have now started to remember to check what I already have before I go to the store. It really helps to cut down on what I buy and then I don’t have to throw out so much old food, either.
